ABOUT  DR JOHNSON MCEVOY
CHARTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Dr Johnson McEvoy BSc, MSc (Sports Physio), DPT, PT

Dr Johnson McEvoy has lectured and taught over one hundred courses in Ireland, the UK, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, and the USA. He has multiple publications on various topics including dry needling and dry needling safety.

Johnson graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1993 with a BSc in Physiotherapy. He worked at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin for six months before emigrating to the USA from 1993 to 1997 where he took the US state boards in Physical Therapy in Florida and New York. He worked primarily inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient musculoskeletal practice. 

On returning to Ireland in 1997 he worked in private practice and opened his own private practice in 2000. He worked with athletes from the National Coaching and Training Center and the carding scheme. He was head physiotherapist with Irish Amateur Boxing High-Performance program from 2003 to 2017 and he serviced four Olympic Games cycles. He was an accredited physiotherapist for the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.

 

He had two mentorships with Dr. David G Simons MD in 2005 and 2008 and he edited and updated three chapters of the third edition of Travell, Simons & Simons' Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction The Trigger Point Manual (2018).

Johnson has been teaching clinically relevant physiotherapy courses since 2003 including myofascial trigger point therapy, trigger point dry needling, and low back pain course. He taught an injury module in sport science for six years the University of Limerick and regularly lectures on several university programs in Ireland.

He was the project manager for the Dry Needling Guidelines (2012) for the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.
